The Wallberg (1722m) is a popular and widely known hiking destination all year round.
A super 360° view of the Bavarian foothills of the Alps awaits you at the summit and Lake Tegernsee is practically at your feet. Also great: the mountain station of the Wallbergbahn and the Wallberghaus provide plenty of places to stop for thirsty hikers!
Thanks to the Wallbergbahn, there is of course always a lot going on, but not everyone visits the summit cross, as you should be sure-footed on the last steep metres! If the summit is too steep for you, you can just sit at the Kircherl at the top station and enjoy the view of the lake from there.
The Wallberg has made history as the starting point of great cross-country flights by paragliders and hang-gliders. The Wallberg toboggan run is Germany’s longest winter toboggan run. The Wallberg race on the Wallberg road, one of the most famous automobile mountain races in the 1960s, has not been held for some time for ecological reasons.
The ascent from the Wallbergbahn valley station near Rottach-Egern leads over a saddle on the left past the Setzberg (1706 m) to the mountain station of the Wallbergbahn. The Wallberg Panorama restaurant there is 1623 m above sea level. After another 30 minutes, you reach the summit.
With the Bayerische Regiobahn BRB to the Tegernsee stop. From Tegernsee train station, take RVO bus 9556 in the direction of Wildbad Kreuth to the Wallbergbahn stop, Rottach-Egern.
Navi address: Wallbergstraße, 83708 Kreuth. If you start from Wallbergmoosalm (summer only!) take the toll road to the mountain pasture (subject to a charge, parking directly at Wallbergmoosalm).
Munich – Tegernsee exit – through Tegernsee always in the direction of Kreuth, after leaving Rottach Egern (well signposted) turn left in the direction of the Wallbergbahn, park by it.
